Diving in Ile
ILE FOURCHE ( Fourche Isl)
Ile Fourche a small uninhabited island is a volcano corona partially submerged in water. Inside what millions of years ago was volcano crater is a small very well protected bay with good anchorage. Tiny gravel beach with small tree grow. Island is almost free from vegetation and is a nesting place for few pairs of Long Tail births arriving here for winter from Bermuda. The highest point on the island is sticking about 250feet (80m) above water level. It’s an easy hike to the top and beautiful 360degrees view of Caribbean Sea, Atlantic Ocean and sounding islands of Sint Martin, St Bartholomew, Saba, Sint Eustatius, St Cristopher ( St Kits) Tintamare and Anguilla.
View is especially spectacular at sunrise and sunsets.
DIVING ILE FOURCHE
There are two dive sites located on south and north entrances to the bay. North west tip is easy 30 to 40 feet (9 to 13 m) deep dive with rocks and boulders to navigate between. Plenty of corals and sponges, Stingrays, Barracudas, Tarpoons, Groupers, Parrot Fish and turtles. Southwest tip is a bit deeper with range of 40 to 66feet (13 to 20m) crystal clear water and similar condition.
On both dive sites you might experience a slight current running from east to west, depending on sea conditions
